cSalo’s Glory

Set in the not-so-distant future, Salo’s Glory is a thrilling short scenario designed for the 7th edition of Call of Cthulhu™. Crafted to run over two sessions, this scenario accommodates three to six players and is an engaging option for gaming sessions. In this future world, humanity has pushed the boundaries of exploration, having discovered and investigated much of the Solar System. With the planets now well-charted, the next frontier is the vast unknown that lies beyond, prompting adventurous souls to seek out the enigmatic secrets of deep space.

The story follows a team of investigators who journey aboard the Tryphena, a sophisticated space vehicle manufactured by Galilee Heavy Industries. As their mission takes them further from familiar celestial bodies, they find themselves in the depths of interstellar space. It is here, amidst the cold darkness of the universe, that they come across an astonishing sight: another Tryphena, a ship that is a twin to theirs. This old Tryphena orbits a solitary planetoid, drifting in the isolation of deep space. The appearance of this abandoned vessel raises many questions for the investigators, who must unravel the mysteries surrounding it. What unfortunate fate befell the crew of the old Tryphena? Why were they drawn to the desolate planetoid? These questions beckon for answers.

The Mind is the Last Frontier

As the investigators probe into the history of the planetoid, they uncover that it serves as the dwelling place of ancient and malevolent entities. These inhuman beings have long desired freedom from their prison but have been thwarted in their attempts to escape, particularly with the arrival of the crew from the old Tryphena. Now, they seek new victims, hoping that these fresh souls might finally help them break free from their confines.

To enhance the gaming experience, the scenario comes with five handouts that provide additional context and clues for the players. Seven detailed maps, including a comprehensive five-page map of the Tryphena itself, enable players use to navigate the interior of the ship. Additionally, players will find new weapons and skills specifically designed for use in the challenges of outer space, along with six pre-generated characters for immediate play. A new creature from the Mythos adds to the mystery and danger that lurks within the story.

At the conclusion of the scenario, a section titled “Further Adventures” offers players additional ideas and prompts for continuing their journey, building on the thrilling events that have unfolded during their time in Salo’s Glory. This encourages a seamless transition into future explorations and escapades in the near-future setting, ensuring the adventure can carry on beyond the confines of this scenario.

What is Call of Cthulhu?

Call of Cthulhu is a classic tabletop role-playing game of mystery and cosmic horror where players take on the roles of ordinary people becoming investigators of the unknown to combat the terrifying forces of the Cthulhu Mythos. Set mostly in the 1920s, the game uses a dice-based Basic Roleplaying System (BRP) where players attempt to succeed at tasks by rolling under a skill percentage, and where too much exposure to the horrors of the Mythos can lead to a loss of sanity. One player acts as the “Keeper” (Game Master), guiding the story and presenting the challenges, while the other players create unique investigators from various walks of life to face these ancient, sanity-blasting entities.
