Goblins, Orcs & Trolls – Species supplement for Chivalry & Sorcery

Ask a dozen people what Goblins, Orcs, and Trolls are, and you will most likely get a dozen answers. Some drawing upon folklore and fairy stories, others on legends, and yet others on the works of JRR Tolkien and fantasy works inspired by him. Some even form their views based on the portrayal of these creatures in fantasy role playing games.Goblins, Orcs and Trolls bridge

This sourcebook offers several approaches to presenting Goblins, Orcs and Trolls in your game. Drawing inspiration from historical sources, medieval and early modern folk tales, and modern fantasy. You’re the world builder, this sourcebook lets GMs draw inspiration from several variants and use whichever suits their world best. The GM can even allow players to create characters from these oft misunderstood species.

Orcs, Trolls, and Goblins are people too!

This book makes them characters, gives them things to care about, and things they are prepared to die for. Essentially, they become flawed and limited in some interesting way. When played out with a group of heroes, it gives a reason to understand that taking a goblin life may not always be the right option. Suddenly, negotiation and even alliance can be a better way forward. If orcs, goblins and trolls are slain on sight, the characters should have a good reason to make that choice. Not just because they’re monsters and they are there.

Expanding Goblinoids in Marakush and other settings

The book contains a chapter on Goblin, Orc, and Troll culture in the Marakush kingdoms of Darken and Svermark. Supported by adventures, this chapter details the settlements and tribal structures as they appear in the fantasy game setting, The Dragon Reaches of Marakush.

GMs wanting to use these creatures in their own world settings can use the Marakush versions as inspiration, or lift them completely to fit into their world. Finally, the information presented here fully aligns with the fantastical Europe described in the Elves and Dwarves Companions for Chivalry & Sorcery.
