Expect Three Visitors

Expect Three visitors is inspired by A Christmas Carol,  a much-loved story centred around Scrooge – a thoroughly unlikeable character whose life is transformed by encounters with a series of spirits. Adapted into film many times, this story of redemption has been told by actors, singers, cartoon characters and even muppets!

Scrooge’s Greed is probably the best known of the “seven deadly sins”. This game lets players tell stories about people suffering from an unchecked relationship to any of the other vices? But what about the people ruining the lives of those around them because of their pride, wrath, gluttony, envy, lust, or their sloth? Can they be rescued too?

About the game Expect Three Visitors art

Expect Three Visitors is an immersive table top story game for 3-5 players. Game sessions take 2-4 hours and all you need is a pack of playing cards, some paper and pens, and this short rulebook.

Each player has two roles – Spirit and Client. The Spirit is charged with attempting to rescue a Client plagued by one of the seven deadly sins. The Client is portrayed by the person to a player’s left, and they play the client of the person to their right.

After an introduction showing how each client’s deadly sin makes life horrible for other people, there are three visions. Of the past, the present, and the future. The emotional tenor of the scenes is set by a hand of playing cards which the spirit draws from when they frame each scene.

For example, in A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is taken to the past where he sees visions of happier times. In the present he sees a heartwarming scene at Bob Cratchit’s home at Christmas. And in the future he sees a scene where Tiny Tim has died.

At the final judgement, the spirits together discover which of their clients, if any, is worthy of redemption.
