Pathfinder uses a d20 system, in which players roll a 20-sided die and add modifiers for 6 core character abilities to determine the outcome of their actions. Based on their knowledge of the world and the players’ dice rolls, the GM describes how the players’ choices affect the story. Certain actions will also require rolling different types of dice.
Players create their characters by choosing unique ancestries, backgrounds, and classes. Characters gain new or improved abilities as they level up, either by gaining experience points or achieving milestones.
