The Search Leads Underground
The search for the Stellar Keystone leads underground.
The thief has finally been tracked to Hill Town, a rugged frontier settlement perched above one of the largest mining operations in Portal Lake. Somewhere beneath the hills lie the answers the party has been seeking since the beginning of their journey.
But recovering the Keystone will require far more than simply descending into a dungeon.
Miners are disappearing. Strange creatures stalk the tunnels. Rival factions compete for influence. Rumors of sabotage and darker forces spread through both the town and the mines below.
To reclaim the artifact, the party must survive a living dungeon where workers, merchants, foremen, prospectors, and monsters all struggle for control.
Hill Town
Hill Town is one of the largest settlements in the campaign and the center of mining activity around Portal Lake.
Home to dwarf-mice, gnome-mice, traders, laborers, and opportunists, the town serves as both a frontier settlement and a hub for adventure. More than seventy named NPCs provide opportunities for roleplaying, side quests, alliances, rivalries, and future stories.
A Living Dungeon
Unlike an abandoned ruin, the mines are an active workplace filled with laborers, supervisors, rival interests, and hidden dangers.
The deeper the party descends, the more dangerous and complex the environment becomes. Each level introduces new challenges, unusual monsters, environmental hazards, and opportunities for discovery.
This is not simply a dungeon crawl. It is an ecosystem of competing interests operating beneath the earth.
Three Levels of Adventure
Level One introduces the party to the hazards of underground exploration, including sloping passages, artificial lighting, environmental dangers, and early clues to mysteries deeper below.
Level Two expands both the scale and danger of the mine. Vertical terrain, deadly encounters, and uncertain allies create a constant sense of risk.
Level Three is a sprawling three-dimensional maze filled with rare monsters, greater treasures, and the answers the party seeks. Here they will rescue Elsabet, recover the Stellar Keystone, and learn of the growing threat gathering beneath the hills.
The Keystone Awaits
Part-Time Professional Mine Janitors serves as the culmination of the first major arc of the Perils of Portal Lake campaign.
Deep within the mines, the party will finally uncover the truth behind the Stellar Keystone, rescue Elsabet, confront powerful enemies, and recover the artifact that began their journey.
