Hellboy: Things That Went Bump in the Night
Things That Went Bump in the Night is the bestiary for the Hellboy Roleplaying Game. It is the monster compendium that you’ve been waiting for. Inside you will find entire campaigns of ghastly creatures to challenge your agents, each fully illustrated by the masterful artists that have brought Hellboy, the B.P.R.D. and the Hellboy universe to life.
The world of Hellboy is awash with strange creatures, strange places, and stranger adversaries than even the most experienced agent can imagine. If it’s not Nazis, it’s Vampires. If it’s not Vampires, it’s Witches, or Frogs, Or Fish people, Lizard people, Molemen (don’t ask) – or for some reason – Kaiju carrying sorcerous death rays. And that’s just a normal case file, because under the earth, the Ogdru Hem are waiting to emerge and bring about a Hell on Earth that can only be Ragnarok. So grab your salt, your shotgun, grenades aplenty, and a thermos of chilled holy water, because the time has come to get stuck in and remind these creatures that humanity hasn’t gone under the hill just yet!
Things That Went Bump in the Night features more frogs than you can shake a stick at, relics of Hyperborea, vampires, witches, and dragons. And you can shake a stick at frogs but…why? It offers Handlers a wealth of opposition to throw at Agents from the entire Mignolaverse!
Things That Went Bump in the Night features:
- Gruesome Lairs for your agents to investigate
- special rules for Kaiju Monsters, Pilotable Androids, and Luchador Vampires!
- Monsters aplenty including
We kick off with 27 pages of B.P.R.D.’s most recurrent foes: the Frog Monsters! These were in the very first Hellboy story and carried through to the rise of the Black Flame and they are weird. They also seek to unleash the Ogdru Hem through the creation of a new Black Flame. Will your agents keep the apocalypse at bay?
Relics of Hyperborea is next, with Atlantean merfolk, sea witches, molemen, KAIJU(!), yeti, weird tech, and so much more! We did say 32 pages, right? No? Well yeah, it’s 32 glorious pages covering the civilisation of Hyperborea, its denizens, lairs, teleportation gates…yup.
Vampires. They’re everywhere. Just…trust us. If you’re on a B.P.R.D. mission in Mexico or wanderin’ around the Russian tundra, there’s probably a vampire involved. There’s dozens of varieties, from the urbane and aristocratic European kind with long moustaches and an idiosyncratic sense of style to…well…full on monster-looking ones! Talking about the ones stalking the outlands of Mexico. You know, the ones that ain’t so attractive unless you like a fangy monster with bat ears and leathery patagium stretched between muscular arms. And if you do, we’re not judging. We’re just saying there’s a lot of different types of vampires and despite all the money and research the Bureau has spent on “why,” nobody knows why. But we got a 24-page chapter on it.
Our longest chapter is on witches. Yup, the biggest villains of the Mignolaverse. We’re talking Baba Yaga, Hecate, Nimue…46 pages of witches. Alongside these collosai we have their closest allies, rivals, and even a few minions. You can’t have enough Minions! With these fresh additions you should be able to take your agents on higher-stakes adventures with.
Last, but by no means least: mighty reptilian beasts as cunning as they are powerful. Yes, we’re talking about dragons! And just like with vampires, dragons are incredibly varied. This chapter covers an era that pre-dates the known world, the creation myth of Anum, as it details where dragons first came from and how they are in the modern world. The St. Leonard’s Wyrm is statted, as are other dragons and their kin, before rounding the chapter out with their lairs
