Player introduction to A Lion in the Ropes

Boots wet from crossing the small river, you tramp onto the remnants of an old road. A small village lies before you, its mostly wooden cottages arrayed in neat order along either side of the road. The evening is early, only just past the dinner hour, and yet the town is muted and dark. Shutters and doors remain tightly closed, and gentle clanking of your armor and equipment echoes in the still quiet. No dogs bark, no people move, there is no sound but the ragged breaths of your tired band.

The adventure

Murder plagues the lands of Lord Galveston. For the past several months people have been disappearing. Some bodies have turned up, their corpses found along the banks of the river. When strange tracks of a cat-like creature are found around the local villages, rumors abound that a charon fiend, a dreaded beast of chaos, has settled in the area. The latest victim is the Deacon of the Four Saints Church in Capendu. The locals find his body in the river and turn to the new adventurers in town for help.
